Why information is handled
The site may handle information to:
- Deliver, secure, diagnose, and maintain the site.
- Detect abuse and investigate security events.
- Understand site usage.
- Respond to correspondence and consider corrections.
- Maintain directory information.
- Meet legal obligations and handle legal claims.
Legal bases where applicable
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, the legal bases may include legitimate interests in operating, protecting, and maintaining the directory; consent where applicable for analytics storage; compliance with legal obligations; or establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims.
Analytics, cookies, and browser preferences
Analytics cookie storage defaults to denied in Quebec, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. In other configured regions, analytics storage uses the existing regional default unless you save another choice.
When analytics storage is granted, Google Analytics may use cookies such as
_ga and _ga_*. When analytics storage is denied, analytics
cookies are not read or written. The Google tag still loads and may send limited
cookieless consent-mode measurements to Google. Learn more in the
Google Consent Mode documentation.
You can change your saved choice using Cookie preferences.
Google Maps and external services
When displayed, embedded Google Maps load from Google and may transmit technical data such as your IP address, browser or device information, and the page being viewed. Google and other external services apply their own terms and privacy practices.
How information may be shared
Information may be shared with recipient categories such as:
- Hosting, analytics, mapping, and email providers.
- A venue or organization relevant to a submitted correction.
- Contractors and professional advisers where reasonably necessary.
- Courts, regulators, law enforcement, or other parties where permitted or required by law.
How long information is kept
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as permitted or required by applicable law. Ordinary request logs are generally deleted within 90 days and may be deleted sooner. Some records may be kept longer when reasonably needed for security, abuse prevention, correspondence, directory maintenance, a legal or regulatory requirement, a court or preservation order, or establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims.
- The repository-managed Amazon CloudWatch log group used for application logs remains configured for 14 days.
- Applicable statutory breach-record requirements continue to govern; this policy does not set a separate fixed public retention period for those records.
- Contact messages use the same necessity-based criteria, and there is no fixed email-retention period.
- Non-personal directory facts and source links may be retained independently of identifiable correspondence.
- Browser preferences remain until cleared, overwritten, or otherwise removed by the browser or user.
- Google Analytics retention depends on the configured property and provider controls.
- Legal or regulatory needs may extend retention beyond ordinary periods.
- The site does not maintain a separate automated security archive or legal-hold mechanism.
Privacy rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information; restrict or object to its processing; receive it in a portable format; withdraw consent; or complain to a privacy authority.
A request may require identity verification and may be limited or refused where applicable law permits. Any response deadline is limited to what applicable law requires; no additional deadline is promised.
International processing
Service providers may process information outside your jurisdiction, where privacy protections may differ from those in your country.
Security
Safeguards are intended to be proportionate to the site and the information involved, but no method of transmission, storage, or protection is guaranteed to be secure.
Do not put passwords, payment information, government identifiers, medical information, or other sensitive information in email or URL query strings.
